Homemade Red Sauce & Pasta

Ingredients

  • Pasta ( Spaghetti, penne, etc)
  • Olive oil
  • 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 1-2 cloves of garlic, thinly sliced
  • bunch of basil
  • Parmesan cheese grated, 1/2 cup for sauce and some for garnish
  • salt to taste
  1. BOIL salted water in a pot and cook pasta according to package.
  2. RESERVE 1/2 cup of pasta water then drain pasta and run under cool water to stop cooking.
  3. ADD enough oil to thinly cover base of new pan, add garlic and basil then turn on medium heat.
  4. POUR canned tomatoes into pan once garlic and basil begins to brown ( you can remove the basil)
  5. TURN heat up to medium high and saute the tomatoes in the oil while stirring as needed for 10 minutes
  6. TURN heat to LOW and add salt to taste and stir in parmesan cheese.
  7. ADD pasta to sauce and stir.
  8. ADD pasta water to help thicken the sauce and let sauce stick to pasta
